D Street Urban Design Plan/ Lawn on D

D Street is an important spine of Boston's booming Seaport District, a former industrial port that is evolving into a center for creative industries and the arts. Leveraging the catalytic energy of The Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC)'s planned expansion, our plan coordinated an influx of investment into a consistent, imageable, and human-oriented public realm.

Seeking a quick win, we created the Lawn on D—a flexible and temporary urban space that hosts a rotation of events and "pre-vitalizes" the new district. The Lawn on D was recognized with several awards, including: the Boston Society of Landscape Architects 2015 Honor Award winner in design, and the 2015 American Institute of Architects National Small Project Award.
